Tips For Parents To Facilitate Self-Care
The weekend is here! Weekends are synonymous with rest and relaxing after a long work week. Let me ask my fellow parents, how much rest have you gotten this weekend? As parents, we are always focused on taking care of our children, as we should be. Did you know that it is just as important to take care of yourself as well? It is a well known fact that being a parent, is one if the most difficult, and rewarding jobs ever. Sadly, when we are running on empty it is difficult to be present fully in our children's lives. So, to be a better parent, it is time to take care of yourself!
So what is Self-Care? As simple as it sounds, it is about taking care of yourself! I have two ways I incorporate Self-Care into my life. The first is planned solo outings at least once every two weeks, preferably more frequently. I am an outdoor enthusiast, so I make sure I get out and into nature. It doesn't matter if I am hiking in the woods, or on a boat, it is a re-set for me. I can take time for me, and let stress and worry go away. I am amazed that when I come back home to my children how much happier, and what a better parent I am. The second way, is a daily time for myself. I take thirty minutes and wakeup before my children, I use that time of the day to focus and get grounded. Sometimes, I use that time to meditate, other times exercise. I do nothing fancy, just a time out for me. I also repeat this at the end of the day. It is a great way to start and end your day.
So as you can see, Self-Care does not have to expensive or fancy. It can be done in the home, treating yourself to a spa day, date, or a fancy meal. It is so important to take care of yourself! How can we possibly be there for our kids, if we are constantly running on empty? I hope you will take sometime for yourself this weekend, and have a renewed sense of purpose!
